What We’re All About

About Us

Some stories start with a handshake—ours started with a first climb.

Back in 2003, a first date at a climbing gym in Maple Ridge, BC, sparked a lifelong partnership built on adventure, challenge, and a love for climbing. Over the years, Jesse and Leanne climbed together indoors and out, always pushing each other to new heights—literally!

In 2011, they moved to Sechelt, BC, to start a new adventure—building a family. But something was missing: the climbing community they loved so much in the Lower Mainland. So, they decided to create one themselves—Strait Up Climbing was born.

Meet the Owners

Jesse Waldorf – Co-Owner & General Manager

With over 25 years of climbing experience, Jesse is a veteran indoor and outdoor climber passionate about building a strong climbing community. He is a Level 2 Climbing Gym Instructor (CGI) through the ACMG and recently completed his Top Rope Climbing Instructor (TRCI) certification, expanding his expertise in outdoor climbing instruction. Jesse is dedicated to helping climbers develop their skills, build confidence, and push their limits in a safe and supportive environment.

Leanne Waldorf – Co-Owner & Athletic Director

Leanne has been climbing for over 22 years and is a certified Education Assistant and Behaviour Interventionist. She brings her teaching expertise to Strait Up Climbing, running youth programs and school group lessons that combine her love for climbing with her passion for engaging, hands-on learning.

Beyond climbing, Leanne is also an artist and educator with a deep love for watercolor painting. What began as a creative activity with her daughter four years ago has grown into a passion she now shares through beginner-friendly watercolor classes. Just like with climbing, she fosters a fun, encouraging atmosphere where young artists can explore, learn, and create.
