Hello There

Updated: May 19, 2018

Hi there! We are Strait Up Climbing and thought we ought to officially introduce ourselves.

Jesse Waldorf has been climbing for 20 years and is a certified Level 1 Climbing Gym Instructor (CGI) through the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG). He started indoor climbing at The Rock Wall in Maple Ridge where he grew up. In early 2003 on a trip to Thailand is where he really fell in love with the sport and spent the next 6 months climbing the cliffs of Tonsai Beach.

Jesse returned home in the summer of 2003 and met me, his now wife, Leanne.

On our first date Jesse took me rock climbing. I had never been climbing so I was a little nervous but up for the challenge. From that first send I was hooked. I loved how I was able to leave all the stresses of the day behind and focus solely on the climb in front of me. The two of us have been climbing partners ever since.

We love to climb - indoor or outside it doesn’t matter. We take our gear with us (our shoes and chalk bags at the very least) where ever we go. Whether it’s to the Skaha bluffs in Penticton, a quick pit-stop at Road Side Attraction on the way to Harrison Hot Springs or Antigua, Guatemala, we can’t stay off the rocks.

We moved to the Sunshine Coast in 2011 to start and raise our family. We always talked about opening a climbing gym but it was never the right time or we couldn’t find the right location, until now. We are super excited about the new building on Wharf Ave that has been purpose built. We hope to bring our enthusiasm and knowledge to Strait Up Climbing as Owners and Instructors.

This is our little family on a walk near Tyson Rock in Wilson Creek, Sunshine Coast BC. This was about as much cooperation we were going to get from our 3 year old. "I'll be in the picture but I don't want to look at the camera."
